On September 25–26, 2025, industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, architects, and sustainability advocates came together in Bangalore for the workshop “Mass Timber: A Sustainable Alternative in Construction.”

Organized by Indroneil Ganguly (CINTRAFOR) in collaboration with the Softwood Export Council (SEC) at the Institute of Wood Science and Technology (IWST), the event focused on advancing the decarbonization of India’s construction sector through mass timber.

Discussions explored the evolving mass timber landscape in India—from building code integration and environmental performance to supply chain development and innovative financing models. The exchange of ideas was both dynamic and productive, resulting in key strategies to accelerate adoption:

• Expanding applications and market awareness

• Strengthening cross-sector collaboration

• Demonstrating value through real-world projects
