Kent Wheiler is an Associate Professor in the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences, and Director of the Center for International Trade in Forest Products (CINTRAFOR). He holds a Ph.D. in Marketing from The University of Texas at Austin. He joined the University of Washington after a thirty-year career in international forestry and wood product operations, including eleven years living in Tokyo, Shanghai, and Dubai, and managing plantations in China, Indonesia, Ghana, South Africa, and Nicaragua.
Dr. Wheiler’s research and teaching is aligned with the mission of CINTRAFOR, with a focus on sustainable production and trade of wood products to protect and improve the lives of people, the health of our forests, and the global environment. He teaches ESRM 423 “Marketing, Trade and the Environment”, a 3-credit course offered during the Winter term. His current research is focused on innovative mass timber construction solutions and global supply chains.
In addition to serving as the Director of CINTRAFOR, Dr. Wheiler is also the Managing Director for the Washington Department of Natural Resources’ Independent Scientific Peer Review, and the Interim Director (through September 15, 2025) of UW’s Pack Forest, an educational forestry facility near Eatonville, WA.
